The tradition of stepping out of the dark studio and directly into the landscape to capture the fleeting, living world is one of art history’s most liberating movements. What began as a scientific exercise for John Constable who meticulously sketched clouds and skies to study the ever-changing moods of weather, blossomed into a full-scale artistic revolution with J.M.W. Turner and the French Impressionists.
Today, that vibrant tradition is as alive and vital as ever.
